This hotel is fantastic. We were looking for something away from the ordinary crowded and busy places of downtown. This place has a castle feel and look to it and we loved the personality of the place. Great english speaking staff, very helpful giving directions. Our room had 5 beds and it was exactly what we needed. The bathroom could have been cleaner, but after all, it was not bad. We purchased breakfast at the hotel as well, it was delicious and reasonably priced. The hotel really is great and we will be back, for sure!
The couple who run this lodge are very friendly and informative about what to see in this area. The breakfasts and dinner were well prepared and of good value. Would not be convenient without a car as it is some distance from the train station. The area is well worth visiting in order to see the shrines and temples.
The manager and his staff were friendly and helpful. All spoke excellent english. They have western homecooked style food and a nice breakfast and dinner menu. There is a cozy living room/beakfast area with internet (small fee), guitars to use, and a great place to chill out according to my 20 yr old grandson. There is an onsen within walking distance. The area is beautiful. We enjoyed it after our hectic Tokyo visit. The rooms are adequate, clean and quiet with full bath in the rooms. The price is very reasonable. The manager provided us with a free ride to the train station and bus center. This is a fine place for young adults and families who like hostel type lodging.
Excellent location, friendly and helpful staff, quite good value
The staff was friendly.
In the morning the staff got up late and there was no one to answer questions. Breakfast was served later than expected. The place is not very clean. The bathroom did not appeared to have been cleaned. The place smells dirty and musty, which is surprising giving that Japan is such a clean place.
15 minutes uphill walk from the Nikko station, which was actually good because it puts you in a calm green area with the temples at walking distance (20 mins). staff drive you from / to the station when you check in/out at 9.30 or between 15/17h so you don't have to carry the bags or take a taxi. Nikko is not the most flexible place for having dinner at any time or place, so dinner 6.30 is what is offered, and the hotel's dinner is very nice. The couple who run the place speak very good English, too, think they lived in the states.
The dinner was great and the room very nice.
People in the reception where little bit too serious but nothing to worry about :)
Staff attempted to be helpful on the surrounding attractions however during the explanation. The staff used their phone for texting and answering calls making us wait.
This space is not large enough to allow us to explain in full the awful experience. Insects spouted from the air-conditioning when switched on. My wife was unable to sleep through the night due to this trauma. Room facilities were almost non existent. No kettle, drinks in the room. Refrigerator was smelly (un-plugged and closed) and had what appeared to be human pubic hair in it !!! Bathroom was incredibly small and not as clean as we would have expected. My wife wanted to leave the hotel however were held hostage as the public transport was nearly none existent after 6 pm. We were unable to leave for home (central Tokyo). Breakfast was an experience alone; we spread are solid butter straight from the fridge with are teaspoons, No staff around to provide knives. We could elaborate further .........
The room is nice and clean in general. The surroundings of the lodge is full of green and fresh air.
But the serious lack of staff in this hotel lodge causes major delay in serving meals. For anyone who wishes to dine in the facility be warned, this hotel is not capable of serving food on time. Not at all.
Nice quiet location within (healthy) walking distance to temples, shrines and bus/train services. Ken and staff are very helpful! Clean and inexpensive Japanese bath house (onsen) very close. Breakfast not included in rates but several healthy and reasonably priced choices available. Enjoyed our stay very much.
Based on feedback in the Lonely Planet and by advise of the Tokyo Tourist Information centre, we decide to book 2 overnight stays in Nikko. We can advise this to anyone who loves hiking. Nikko has a lot to over besides the beautiful world heritage site. We found this lodge via Lonely Planet and enjoyed our stay. Compared to similar places in other parts of the word the price was relatively high, but based on prices in Japan this was ok. We booked a two persons bedroom, the bathroom was fully equipped, we had a little seating area with a brand new television and the common lounge was cosy and offered free wifi. The couple spoke english and was eager to help out, they organized shuttles to the station in the morning and arranged breakfast and dinner if you wanted so.
There was no heating in the room which was a downside on the second day as it rained and it was hard to dry our clothes,
What a great place! Staying at Nikko Park Lodge felt like staying in a cozy home of your favorite uncle. Ken, the owner is very friendly, helpful and speaks perfect English. He gave us nice suggestions for sightseeing and even gave us a lift. We also had an amazing french toast breakfast, highly recommend it. This is a great place to relax, slowdown and enjoy nature, and its only few minutes ride in a taxi from both train stations (if you arrive late in the evening and miss the free shuttle service that Hotel provides) Will return for sure!
The staff member was quite helpful with questions about the local area and also offered a free unscheduled shuttle to the station since someone had to go there unexpectedly. The lounge area of the hotel was quite nice and the surrounding area outside is very natural if you're into that.
When we arrived, they did not have our booking. Finally after searching several minutes, they found the Booked.net booking and gave us a room. This happened again to another couple the next night, but not sure it was Booked.net or another site. Seems the internet booking process isn't well organized. Also our room had 2 beds, one single, one double. We used the double and it was as hard as a rock. The single was much softer, but my girlfriend had an allergic reaction to something on it so it was useless to us.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was good value. It's a lovely location with a nearby onsen.
